3 Easy Ways to Increase Your Focus and Productivity

As a small business owner and someone that is consistently working on several projects at once, I know the struggles of trying to stay focused, organized, and motivated. Over the years, I’ve picked up a few good habits that really improve my focus and my productivity.

Here are 3 simple practices to help keep you motivated and productive:

1.) Make a prioritized to-do list at the end of each work day or before bed.
Having a comprehensive list of tasks that need to be accomplished offers several benefits. First, it allows you to get more rest. You can focus on relaxing instead of mentally running through your to-do list and trying to remember every item. This also helps organize your thoughts so you can hit the ground running the following day. You will already have a list of priorities that can get immediate attention, instead of trying to remember where you left off.

2.) Check the easiest item off first.
This is one of my favorites! Pick one or two of the easiest and quickest tasks on your to-do list and complete them first. This not only gives you great momentum, but you begin your day with an accomplishment. Things in motion stay in motion, it’s simple. Start strong and the rest of the day will be just as productive.

3.) Keep your desk or work space clean and organized.
This can be difficult for some, but having a place for everything makes your productivity soar. Not only do you know where something is when you need it, you can quickly refer back to items, documents, and information. A clean workspace also allows you the room to be creative and to focus your attention on what’s in front of you. It can be difficult to maintain a thought process with so many distractions in your line of sight.

+ Bonus : Keep a large sticky note or cover sheet on top of each folder or project you are working on. Use it as a quick reference for important deadlines, contacts, ideas, and information that you find yourself frequently searching for. At the end of the day, you can note what your next step is in the project, so when you resume working on it, you jump in–right where you left off.

I hope these easy practices help you stay more focused and motivated throughout the day. I’m always looking for creative ways to stay organized and boost productivity. If you have any tips or tricks, please share them below!
